Sasameki Koto, Episode 8: Ripple

I'm now up to episode 8 of Sasameki Koto. This episode was a pretty dramatic change in pace from the zaniness of last week's episode. Sasakmeki Koto has been full of comedy in the past, but this was more like a nice little slice of life anime. I really enjoyed it.

Aoi was adorable in this episode. It's nice to see more of her, and I hope she continues to get more screentime. I also liked that some nice things were set up plot wise here. I hope we still get a few comedic episodes in the future, but the slight change of pace really seems like it'll be good for this anime.

Overall, this was a huge step up from last week's episode for me. I think this anime is at its best when it finds the perfect mix of drama and comedy, but I'd gladly take this over more episodes like last week. I'm really curious to see what'll happen with this anime in the weeks to come.

Sasameki Koto, Episode 7: Boy Girl

Episode 7 of Sasameki Koto brings back the humor to the anime, but does so at the expense of screentime for most of the main characters. I like Akemiya, and I want to say that it's nice to see more of him, but I always feel so bad for him it's hard to enjoy his scenes. I was never much of a fan of embarrassing situation humor- it just makes me too uncomfortable.

I also found Akemiya’s sister to be seriously creepy, which soured me a bit on this episode. The idea of this story was a lot of fun, but she made the execution of it a lot less entertaining. Still, there were plenty of laughs to be had, and I appreciated the brief scenes with Ushio.

I was really hoping that this episode would give us some good story progression, but it sadly felt like more filler. I still really like this anime, but the last few episodes have been a disapointment to me. I hope this anime gets back to being as good as it used to be soon.

Sasameki Koto, Episode 6: A Night Together

Sasameki Koto
Sasameki Koto continues on to episode 6.  This episode sees some plot notes from early in the show coming back, while still keeping the new characters as part of the plot. In spite of several sweet moments, I thought that this one one of the weaker episodes this anime has seen.

My biggest problem with this episode was that it didn't feel like much of anything happened, or at least not 20 minutes worth of stuff. It wasn't very well paced and it felt like things were dragging at times. There wasn't as much good comedy in this episode either. The stuff at Sumika's house felt very odd to me, like it belonged in another anime. I did enjoy Ushio here, though. She's becoming a more and more likable character for me. I hope she finds happiness before the series end.

I'm not really worried about Sasameki Koto. I wasn't crazy about this episode, but I'm confident things will be as entertaining as ever come next week. The previews make it look like it's going to have a lot happening and move the plot along a fair bit. I'll just write this one off as filler.

Sasameki Koto Episode 5: Friends

sasameki koto
I'm continuing my catch-up on this week's anime with Sasameki Koto Episode 6. This episode continues the new plotline introduced in the last episode, and also continues to up the ante for comedy. The show is progressively getting funnier and funnier, but is still retaining the drama and sweetness that it's had from the start.

I haven't been the biggest fan of Ushio up to this point, but I really grew to like her in this episode. There's a lot more to her character than what the anime has showed so far, and I really liked what I saw. If she continues to be this likable I might just start rooting for her and Sumika to get together after all.

Sasameki Koto is really turning into the sort of anime that anyone could enjoy. If you have a friend that you've been trying to get into yuri shows, and they haven't been sold on them yet, try getting them to watch a few episodes of this one. Hopefully the show will continue on this path so that it's something I can recommend often.

Sasameki Koto, Episode 4: 4+1

sasameki koto
I'm now officially one third of the way through Sasameki Koto. In the fourth episode, 4+1, we get to see a little more of some of the characters introduced in the last episode. Introducing them made for some great comedy, and I hope we see a lot more of them. An injection of humor is just what this show needs to appeal to more than just yuri fans.

In spite of all the laughs this episode had to offer, I felt really bad for some of the characters. I really hope that both Sumika and Akemiya are happy by the end of the show, no matter how things wrap up. Both of them have had to go through a lot in the episodes of the anime that I've seen so far, and I expect they still have a bit of suffering left before the show is over.

Hopefully Sasameki Koto will continue to churn out episodes like this one so that it can have a wider appeal. Obviously there are plenty of people who'll come check out any yuri anime, but it'll be nice if they can stick around for the comedy. Things are really shaping up nicely, and I have high hopes for the rest of the show.

Sasameki Koto, Episode 3: First Kiss

We've now reached the third episode of the yuri romance anime Sasameki Koto. This episode calls back to the scene we saw at the beginning of the very first episode, and, as the episode title may suggest, has some discussion of first kisses. Sumika continues to be a really entertaining character in this one, while Ushio continues to be extremely dense when it comes to Sumika's feelings towards her.

Ultimately, I think that's my problem with Sasameki Koto. I'm not rooting for Sumika and Ushio to get together at all. I'd rather see Sumika get over Ushio and find an awesome girl who really likes her for who she is. I'm not familiar with the Sasameki Koto manga, so maybe I'm supposed to feel that way, I don't know. It's just leaving me really frustrated.

I am enjoying this show, and it's doing a lot of things I'd like to see more yuri anime doing. I just feel like something's wrong with me if I don't want to see the main characters of a show like this together. I'm not going to be really disappointed if this does turn out to be a more conventional show and Ushio and Sumika eventually do get coupled up, but it would be really neat if this show was doing something different.

Sasameki Koto, Episode Two: Cute People

In the second episode of Sasameki Koto, Ushio obsesses over a magazine featuring girls in lolita-style fashions. Meanwhile, Sumika Murasame is troubled over her percieved lack of cuteness. However, there's at least one person who thinks that Murasame is cute.

I enjoyed this episode quite a bit more than the first one. Ushio was a lot more likable to me this time around. It's nice to see a girl who is just generally into girls rather than the one true love stuff that's pretty typical of yuri. I also liked the subplot introduced this week. I hope that they do a lot more with it, because I think it can make for some interesting stories.

Overall, Sasameki Koto is shaping up to be a pretty good yuri anime. I hope that this series continues to improve week to week and becomes a good anime in its own right. Right now, I'd only recommend this show to fans of yuri, but that may change with time.

Sasameki Koto Episode One: Whispered Words

Sasameki Koto is a yuri romance show about Sumika Murasame, a girl in love with her best friend, Ushio Kazama. Ushio openly likes girls, but has made it clear that she's only interested in "cute girls". Sumika doesn't want to jeopardize her friendship with Ushio, so she hides her feelings the best that she can.

It can be hard to find good yuri shows, and so I'm always interested when I hear one is in the works. However, Sasameki Koto hasn't really managed to capture my interest yet. The show absolutely had some cute and funny moments, but I'm just not very involved in the romance or with either of the main characters. I feel like the show focused so much on the drama and not enough on the comedy- the drama will work much better once the characters have been better developed, but the comedy moments were pretty hilarious as is. Of course, this is only the first episode. The anime has plenty of time to strike a balance between now and then.

Though I'm being pretty negative, I don't think this Sasameki Koto is bad at all, and I'll definitely keep on following it. Hopefully it'll improve as the series goes on, but there's still plenty to like as is. Whether this anime gets better or it stays about the same, I should have no problem staying interested enough to watch 12 episodes.
